International Report : Innovative Rhisotope Project Moves to Next Stage After Success of Phase One

  Nuclear technology deployed to save rhinos in Africa  The first phase of the Rhisotope Project aimed at curbing rhino poaching in South Africa using nuclear technologies – radioisotopes – has been successfully completed. The initial stage of the project, completed on September 16th, was dedicated to proving that there was no movement of the stable isotopes from the horn of the rhino into the body of the animal. In order to prove this, Igor and Denver, two rhinos, were darted and sedated, at which point the cocktail of stable isotopes was introduced into their horn. These two animals were isolated into a separate camp where they were closely observed. Highly trained rangers collected daily faecal as well as periodic blood samples. The various samples were analysed to look at the 13C/12C and 15N/14N ratios, which have subsequently indicated that there has been no movement of material from the animals’ horns. Beginning of A New Dawn....,As Emirates ramps up US flights to meet increasing demand

Emirates is increasing flight frequencies to a number of US destinations from October. The airline has been building up connectivity in response to growing customer demand on the back of rising travel confidence and the easing of international travel protocols. There has also been a growing interest to visit Dubai, a city that offers something for everyone and will be hosting a number of major events including the World Expo this winter.   Starting from October, Emirates will be operating 78 weekly flights to 12 destinations in the US with an increase in weekly flights scheduled for Boston (BOS), Dallas (DFW), New York (JFK), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA) and Washington DC (IAD). The highest increase will be in New York, with weekly flights now up to 19.  Special lectures aimed at popularizing Russian nuclear education programmes in Africa have been held in Namibia. Different Russian universities last week held lectures on nuclear education in Namibia, as part of the project 'International Cooperation in Nuclear Education'. The lectures were facilitated by the leading supporting universities of the State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom'. About 300 high school students took part in the event. Despite fears of the spread of the coronavirus infection, the events were held in accordance with the requirements for organising public events set by the Ministry of Health and Social Services. The Research Nuclear University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, and Moscow Power Engineering Institute in the Kavango region, with the support of Peoples' Friendship University of Russia took part in the nuclear education lectures.
