As Edo State gears up for a brighter future, Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision for electricity transformation is taking shape under the leadership of Saturday Egbadon, Director General of the Edo State Electrification Agency. With a focus on rural electrification, meter access, and combating vandalism, the administration is pushing forward with its ambitious ‘Shine Agenda’ to drive economic growth and improve livelihoods across the state.

Egbadon’s role is pivotal in implementing the governor’s vision, particularly in extending power to underserved areas. The agency is overseeing the expansion of electricity access to previously dark rural communities, a move set to bridge the urban-rural divide and unlock opportunities in agriculture, commerce, and education. “Electricity is the backbone of development,” Egbadon emphasizes, echoing the governor’s commitment to progress.

A key focus is ensuring meter access for all households. The agency is enforcing mandatory metering for new connections, partnering with stakeholders to ensure meters are delivered within 10 days post-payment, effectively ending the scourge of estimated billing. This initiative is expected to boost revenue for power companies and enhance service delivery.

Vandalism remains a critical challenge, but Egbadon is taking a tough stance. The agency is enforcing laws against infrastructure sabotage and urging citizens to report any suspicious activities. “One act of vandalism can plunge a community into darkness,” he warns, calling for collective action to protect public assets.

Beyond households, the administration is connecting public facilities like schools, dispensaries, and water points to the grid. These efforts aim to improve healthcare, education, and access to clean water, laying the foundation for healthier, more resilient communities.

Edo State’s mini-grid projects are also gaining traction, offering innovative solutions for remote areas. These projects not only provide power but also stimulate local economies, creating jobs and fostering entrepreneurship.

Governor Okpebholo’s ‘Shine Agenda’ is more than an electrification plan—it’s a blueprint for inclusive growth. By prioritizing electricity access, the administration is empowering Edo citizens to thrive, innovate, and contribute to the state’s development.

Under Egbadon’s leadership, the Edo State Electrification Agency is proving that with vision, determination, and collaboration, the challenges of power scarcity can be overcome. As the state shines brighter, residents are optimistic about a future where electricity is a catalyst for prosperity, not a luxury.
