Significance of Aviation Minister Festus keyamo SAN To NCAA to start Public Shaming of Airlines

     By Richlist Magazine international

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has taken a bold step towards improving airline performance by announcing plans to publicly name and shame airlines that fail to comply with aviation regulations. This move, directed by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, aims to address issues such as flight cancellations and delays.

*Significance of the Move

The decision to name and shame non-compliant airlines is expected to drive adherence to safety and service standards. By publicly highlighting underperforming airlines, the NCAA  led by DG Capt Chris Najomo hopes to prompt them to improve their services and adhere to regulations. This approach has been shown to be effective in other industries, where public scrutiny has driven companies to improve their performance.

*Impact on Passengers

The move is also expected to benefit passengers, who will have more information about airline performance. With this information, passengers can make informed decisions about which airlines to use, potentially avoiding those with poor track records. This increased transparency will likely lead to improved customer satisfaction and loyalty.

*Regulatory Compliance

The NCAA's decision is in line with its regulatory mandate to ensure compliance with aviation regulations. Part 19 of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs) 2023 deals with consumer protection issues, including compensation for passengers affected by flight disruptions. By naming and shaming non-compliant airlines, the NCAA is taking a proactive approach to enforcing these regulations.

*Industry Response

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has expressed support for the minister's efforts to improve the aviation industry. While the impact of the naming and shaming policy on airline operations remains to be seen, it is expected to drive positive change in the industry.

*Challenges Ahead

One potential challenge is ensuring that the naming and shaming policy is fair and transparent. The NCAA will need to ensure that airlines are given adequate notice and opportunity to respond to any allegations of non-compliance. Additionally, the NCAA will need to have a clear and consistent methodology for determining which airlines to name and shame.

*Conclusion

The NCAA's decision to name and shame non-compliant airlines is a significant step towards improving airline performance in Nigeria. By driving adherence to safety and service standards, this move has the potential to benefit both passengers and the aviation industry as a whole
