Fellow Nigerians,
Distinguished Edo indigenes,
Members of our great Diaspora community,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On this special day, we come together as one nation, as one people, to commemorate 64 years of Nigeria’s independence. Today is a day of reflection, celebration, and above all, hope. It is a moment to remember our past, appreciate our present, and recommit to the promise of a better future for our beloved country, Nigeria.
A Journey of Resilience and Strength
Our journey as a nation has been one of trials and triumphs, challenges and victories. For 64 years, Nigeria has stood tall as the giant of Africa—blessed with rich cultural diversity, natural resources, and above all, resilient and determined people. From the oil-rich Niger Delta to the expansive farmlands of the North, from the vibrant markets of Lagos to the historical depths of Edo, we are a nation abundant in both potential and spirit.
Yet, despite our wealth of resources and talent, we find ourselves at a crossroads today. Our beloved Nigeria faces deep-seated challenges—economic hardship, insecurity, youth unemployment, and a broken political system. These issues, though daunting, do not define us. They are temporary, and they are surmountable. We are better than our current position, and we will do better.
Our Potential Is Limitless
As we look to the future, let us remember that the strength of our nation lies not just in its natural resources but in the tenacity of its people. We have the ability to rise above our challenges, to rebuild our economy, and to restore faith in our institutions. Together, we can reclaim the Nigeria that our founding fathers envisioned—a Nigeria where every citizen, regardless of their background, has access to the opportunities that enable them to thrive.
The Nigerian spirit is one of resilience, ingenuity, and compassion. When pushed to the brink, we rise. When faced with adversity, we innovate. And when called upon to rebuild, we come together as one nation, united in purpose.
We have seen this resilience in our health workers during the global pandemic, in our entrepreneurs creating solutions that meet our unique challenges, and in our diaspora community, whose tireless contributions continue to strengthen our economy and bridge gaps between Nigeria and the global community.
Together, We Will Do Better
At 64, Nigeria is not young. We are still evolving and still learning. But I firmly believe that our best days lie ahead of us. We have the capacity to reimagine our future, to elevate our people out of poverty, to ensure that our children have access to quality education, and to create a society where peace, progress, and prosperity are not just words but a reality for all.
We will do better—by fostering accountability in our governance, ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind, and by embracing the diversity that has always been our greatest strength. We will stand up to those who have used our common wealth for personal gain, and we will work together to reclaim the promise of a Nigeria that works for everyone.
A Call to Action
As we celebrate this 64th year of independence, let it serve as a call to action for all Nigerians—both at home and in the diaspora. Now, more than ever, Nigeria needs its sons and daughters to step up, to contribute, and to fight for the future we deserve. This is not the time to sit on the sidelines. This is the time to come together, to build, to heal, and to grow.
To my fellow Edo indigenes, we have always been known for our courage and strength. I urge you to remain steadfast in the pursuit of excellence, to continue demanding good governance, and to never lose hope. Together, we will write the next chapter of Edo's history with pride and determination.
Closing Thoughts
Let today be a reminder that despite the challenges we face, Nigeria remains a land of great promise and possibility. We are a people of boundless potential, and the future is ours to create. Together, we will rise. Together, we will build. Together, we will ensure that Nigeria remains not just the giant of Africa, but a beacon of hope, progress, and prosperity for the world.
Happy 64th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria! May God continue to bless our land and guide us on this path to greatness.
God bless Nigeria.
God bless Edo State.
God bless each and every one Nigerian.
