• Sportshaq, Nigeria's premier sports bar and viewing center, is thrilled to announce its 30th anniversary.

 Founded by Godwin Dudu-Orumen, a renowned sports administrator and CEO of Sportshaq, the company has played a pivotal role in shaping the culture of sports bars and viewing centers across the country.

Dudu-Orumen, also known as the Football Aficionado for his deep knowledge of football, expressed his excitement about reaching this significant milestone. In a chat with Richlist magazine  Dudu-Orumen emphasized the company's valuable contribution to the sports entertainment industry.



Reflecting on the inception of Sportshaq, Dudu-Orumen shared, "Back in 1994, I toyed with the idea of collective viewership of live sporting events on big screens. I wanted to cater to the interests of Nigeria's passionate sports fans, especially during big match days of European Football Leagues, the UEFA Champions League, African Cup of Nations, the Olympic Games, and other major sporting events."

From humble beginnings, Sportshaq has grown into a thriving sports bar and viewing center. Dudu-Orumen's passion for sports and his close circle of friends led to the birth of the Sports Bar Concept, which he aptly named Sportshaq. In 1997, the company relocated to its present location in Surulere, Lagos, and expanded to include a separate section for collective audience viewership, eventually evolving into a private membership club.

Sportshaq has become a hub for friendship, networking, and the exchange of ideas among professionals, industry captains, corporate executives, media executives, sports administrators, coaches, athletes, sports writers, and broadcasters. The establishment has hosted distinguished individuals such as Asuen Ighodalo, one of Nigeria's leading lawyers and current governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Aluko (SAN), Chief Segun Odegbami, Austin Eguavoen, Otunba Segun Runsewe, and Chief Patrick Ekeji, among others.

The Sportshaq experience goes beyond the collective viewership of sports events. Patrons can enjoy good home-cooked meals, precisely served drinks, and engage in various games such as chess, snooker, scrabble, darts, and table tennis. Dudu-Orumen believes that Sportshaq's influence has played a significant role in popularizing the viewing center culture in Nigeria.

To commemorate this milestone, Sportshaq is hosting a series of events from July 25-27. The celebration kicks off with the Scrabble Invitational on the 25th, followed by an exclusive Snooker tournament for members on the 26th. The highlight of the festivities will be a special evening for members on the 27th, featuring a reunion, reminiscing, and the signature Sportshaq culinary experience.
