And for the Orange New Jersey based designer  Dhabri khenchy, this is no doubt his moment of global glory as he has now been officially named  as the Africa's  BEST Designer at the prestigious 2023  African Entertainment Award USA which wasStaged at the   impossing Symphony Hall, down town Newark New Jersey USA..

With this latest global award the Owerri Imo state creative powerhouse designer has now entered history book as one of the few brands to have bagged 3 international Award in 3months- what a fit - the.later being  the  award called List as the Best African Designer in America.

Now after a long search  ,the international magazine brand online magazine called World Industry Leaders Magazine international tracked him down from busy schedule for a lengthy telephone conversation. Enjoy the excerpt

Q: Big ups on your new award, please tell us about the process leading to the award proper?

A: Thanks to World Industry Leaders Magazine crew

It was not an easy ride. When the Nomination was announced it wasn't a surprise that I will win the prestigious award. Infact, I look at myself from the unbeatable track records I have set in the African fashion scene, having been consistent and creating mind blowing crafts over the years. 

My innovations from the angle of not just being a clothing designer but a prolific painter/Artist turned designer, my recognition at the New York fashion terrain and laurels, my wardrobe support services in the communities and my creative craft benevolence and donations which accorded me a great acceptance and spotlight by the city Mayor of East Orange Council of New Jersey, which landed my brand to be known all over the states. 

Having achieved all this and more, I realized that my counterparts are yet to get there though every one is good in their various capacities. I strongly believe my brand can compete in any fashion stage in the world and will not be left not carrying shoulder high. 

My style of rendition in initiating the Afro-denim Culture have kept the fashion world wondering on where I should be  heading to in the nearest future and that has helped build my confidence in believing I am the best. The List award is a statement of that fact and I am honored.

Q: How did you feel when you won the award

The best African designer in America award ?

A:When I won the award, it was not just about winning, but with a loud wide margin, I knew it was a moment of preparations for me for the Oscar Awards, which  I have been eyeing. I knew it wasn't going to be easy but yet I still believed that I am a gifted soul with high level of intuition in fashion craft.

 It is a victory for the art world because Conquering Art is conquering the needle and everything around it. I see every competitive fashion stage as a win for me for in this active period because I See my Art as Spiritual. I believing in the healing that Art brings and would dedicate my message of Winning for healing and Peace to the  Victims of the ongoing Isreal war.

Q: Who was the award dedicated to ?

A: All the war victims in Israel and My mother of course because growing up under the watchful eyes of my mom who was a school teacher,  was fun to me, Owerri was known to be an administrative hub in my childhood days and not quite a large number of people believed in Art and entertainment even most parent would discourage their wards to embrace the sciences or become a Doctor, Pilot, or Engineer. In my case, my mother discovered my gift early, watching me sew and playing around her shade with leftovers of fabric, putting them together in colour hues and making wearable toy pieces induced my mom who insisted I must be  enrolled in Art concentrated schools at age 5, different from what other parents believed. 

I was processed in every thing around Art and through my growing up, majored in Applied Arts and clothing in the University, in Imo which  announced me in the media, while I left to compete in Lagos fashion Scene and had my debut outing at graduation from University with the Nigeria Fashion Week,  and recorded an amazing impact that caught the interest of the international Fashion reporters and likes of Mike Osagie the wonder Style image king, cum writer who followed up  my ingenuity and exceptional craft and the rest is history.

 In years to come, I was invited to South Africa for S.A fashion indaba and expository outings, witnessed the fashion week, and held solo and group exhibitions in Capetown , StellenBosch and wynberg where I took the Nigeria style of fashion to the street. From there  I participated at the International trade Show in USA, down to Europe the Fashion Capital of France  Paris,  Facilitated and featured at the Monterpanasse Fashion show and All Africa women development conference . Returned back to Nigeria, signed up to facilitate the  California Iron & Sole clothing label before permanently  relocating to the US in 2018 and established the official Dhabri-Khenchy Clothing LLC.

Q: Deep insightful story Ambassador. Please let us have your message for the global youths of Today

A: To the youths worldwide. My message is for them Is to remain resolute, consistent in any thing you believe. Consistency is the secret of success and they should also believe that there is dignity in labour and everything means something and nothing is a waste. Only believe and dig deep. You will see Gold. And chief of all they must reverence their maker, God.
