The Inspector General of Police has been called upon to
immediately carry out a ruling of a High Court sitting in Benin
City. The Court ordered the investigation of some members and members-elect of the Edo State House of Assembly for committing acts tantamount to treasonable felony among other charges.
The Attorney General of Edo State had dragged the police to the High Court in Benin in a suit number B/141M/20 seeking for the court to grant an order of Mandamus for the police to investigate and subsequently charged the aforementioned, together with a retired deputy clerk of the House of Assembly with charges such as treasonable felony, unlawful gathering and impersonation.
Speaking to Cerutti Media last nights on the development, a founding Director General of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Earl Osaro Onaiwu urged the Inspector General of Police to immediately see to the arrest and investigation of the indicted fellows.
He declared Edolites were apprehensive about continuous freedom of the people who sought to effect a coup on a democratically elected government in Edo State. He noted that the actions of the members-elect in trying to overthrow the legally recognised leadership of the House was capable of throwing the state into anarchy.
Onaiwu enjoined the Nigerian police to demonstrate that it keeps no sacred cows in the mandate of ensuring law and order in the country.
