The Man Godwin Dudu-Orumen & His Philosphies (1)

Prologue
I have always held our today's subject matter in very high esteem, long before we became good / brotherly friends

Godwin Dudu- Orumen is not called soccer aficionado for nothing....he speaks, eats and lives to love the pretty game

Only recently, after our piece on late Steve  Keshi one year in death remembrance, we asked him if he can grant us few minutes audience ~ he was nice to obliged. Enjoy the excerpt

Q.1. How is your sports home of relaxation?

Sportshaq is okay and still serving it's purpose as leisure hangout and watering hole for sports fans between the ages of 24-70 years. The idea of collective viewership, exchange of banters, networking over drinks and live streaming of sport events still doing good here. Business-wise the margins have dwindled greatly .

The cost of doing business rises everyday, multiple taxation in Lagos State, reduced purchase power of individuals , the very poor attitude to work by service/ operations staff are some of the challenges the business face.

 Q.2.Why so quite of late?

I am a bit quiet because we live in a society where the government and people have not the stomach for truth. Liars, cheats and less than honest people get rewarded for doing nothing sports but milk it. They make big money and are rewarded with appointments too. And because l have a different on many issues in sports especially football most of which are correct l am wrongly labelled controversial or a radical.
At some point three of my classmates were State Governors, Mr Babatunde R.Fashola SAN,Lagos State, Dr Godswill Akpabio, Akwa-Ibom State and Senator Liyel Imoke, Cross-over States, and Senator Anyim Pius Anyim was SGF, and there l was being negatively branded so l took stock and my self audit told me to go quiet since my contributions were unappreciated and infact working against me.
The last straw was when on my written advice and opinion, the President Musa Yar' Adua administration set up a Presidential Task Force to ensure Super Eagles qualified for World Cup 2010 which Mr Rotimi Amaechi was Chairman, l was dropped at tge the last minute because l was said to be a radical. It's okay to use tge idea of a radical but he cannot be rewarded for it. For me it was time and final signal to leave sports for those the government and people preferred . At least l have my peace.

Q.3.We just posted a piece on late Keshi.. What's your take?

I pass on the Keshi matter please. It's too much of an emotional issue with scant room for reason and l don't want to attract insults to myself especially from the uninformed and misled persons. Quite.

4. Our Eagles now seems to be shadow of old,do you agree?

Today's Super Eagles are about the same age of what we used to parade as U-17. It's young and not experienced but experience will come in time . Tough times are hear for the team especially against a very physical Cameroon team that has played more matches together as a team. I do think that with careful planning and the right strategy Eagles can edge out Cameroon.
Long term however the current bunch of Eagles with some tinkering and continued re-engineering can restore some old glory. But the coach Mr Rohr must be given a free hand, strong support , his programmes and preparations adequately funded too.

Q.5. Many see you as future NFF boss, do you agree?

It's a bit consoling to hear that people still root for me to drive football administration in Nigeria. I don't know if l still have that appetite and fire anymore but it be a good test. I will be glad to put my competences and skills at the disposal of my country but only when l am invited to the party. For now l am concentrating on my children and youth development/ empowerment initiative on the platform of football, Cowbell Football Academy, which has about 500 participants, boys and girls age 4-18 years old in four centres : Surulere, Badagry, Lifasi Nature Park , Lekki and Benin City. It is sponsored by Promasidor . The children are fully engaged by 23 coaches and 4 coordinators and support staff. So you can see l am still engaged in football but on a platform l am in control of the major elements. That's about it Cerutti. Have a blessed day.

* We thank you so much for your time Chief Orumen.
