Mikel’s
Admission of Spending Over 30.000 pounds Of His Personal Money On Dream TEAM…A
Most Pathetic Damage On Nigeria’s International
Image
Most
pathetic! Or how will one describe mercurial midfielder and Nigerian double
skipper, Mikel Obi’s recent confession to goal.com that he had to personally
foot the bills on the way of helping Nigeria to secure the soccer games of the Olympic
bronze medal (Nigeria’s singular medal at the event)
Hear Obi,
who spoke exclusively to NIzaar Kinsella on his Olympic
experience “I think if we talk about that I put into the team, I think it must be
more than thirty thousand ponds, but we had to do it, sometimes in the campo
there was no food, sometimes there was no match pitch to train on, and most
times there was no bus to take us to training pitch
“At some
stage, there was just no flight provided by the Nigerian ministry, at the Olympic
proper for example, we planned to leave three or four days before the Olympic
kicks off, but we ended up leaving the day of the first game, it was very
difficult one, and I don’t think I HAVE ever seen something like this before,
it was crazy, on day of our first match we arrived our hotel dropped our bags,
grabbed few sandwiches, something to eat, a little bit of food, then headed
straight back to the stadium, with no accreditation”
What a most
pathetic sports federation we have in Nigeria under Solomon Dalung, but the
gallant dream team was to go on and win their first match against Japan, and
long after the Olympic games, it is only logical that the Federal Government,
determined to “Change all things” bring all those responsible for such shady
Olympic preparation to book and for equity sake have Mikel Obi’s thirty
thousand pounds paid back to him
We hope the Sports
ministry/ the NFF are reading this piece? And steps being taken to safe guide a
reoccurrence of these embarrassments…. A most pathetic image mishap for the giant
of Africa
