)After a record of about 105 fashion shows in the African
continent, David Kolawole VAUGHAN,
President and CEO of DAKOVA Fashions and
style luxury brands is back to his natural beat of needle and thread, coming
few years after his short and eventful stint
as a night club owner in Abuja
Speaking in
an exclusive interview recently with this writer, Dakova says he has no regret
trying his hands in the night club business, but feel very excited to return
again full force to the DKV Fashion business and now aiming to put more exhibition show shortly
He says of
his big return to the fashion scene “I am one of those few Africans that have
gone to extra miles in the name of fashion and it is on record that I have done
to date a record of exactly 105 fashion shows and exhibition, and my happiness
is that despite this record that is worth being mentioned in the respected Guinness
Book of records I love to be modest about it
“In the past
I have staged no less than 12 shows a year organized for charity, high style, corporate
companies, beauty pageant among several others, and it is on record that for
many of such shows I usually use top grade A models not only in Nigeria but across
the continent
“I decided
to most time get international models for my show because I have never believed
in the art of compromise, I go only for the best or nothing that is my nature
that is my upbringing that is how God created me
“though it
is on record for the world to see that I have tried and succeeded in different
field of life, I always regard myself first as an artist and my happiness is
that you can beat me in other are in school, when it comes to art I was never a
man of second position in school, first is my filed
“By artist
it can evolve from painting, to dancing, to fashion designing or even to what
body form should be like, because everything start from a point-from that
little dot, where you put your pencil down to start your strokes, that is where
you start drawing, no wonder am regarded as one of the fashion designer that looks
at the human body as my point”
Dakova says
he will not mind to be call a merchant of fashion, simply because fashion is
his passion and everyday of his life he sells cloths, I began as far as 1986, and I give glory to God that am
still in the business, I have passed through a lot but am glad I never gave it
a thought to quit the needle and thread business and today as God will have it he is back to his first love,fashion
