PROLIFIC SUNDAY PEOPLE:Adebisi Omoyeni, From Murkey Waters Of Banking to Political Battle Field
In the next couple of months, the name,
Adebisi Omoyeni may be the name to beat in the murky world of politics. He cuts
across as a man wearing a coat of many colors. An astute banker – almost all his
life. He has never hidden his love and passion for big league politics. Neither
has he ever hidden his love and admiration for the great American icon, George Washington.
And anytime Washington’s name is mention, one
of his greatest ever thought provoking iconic quote always come to mind: ‘’Associate yourself with men of good
quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than
bad company’’
He has He cuts an image of a very cool, calm
and calculated figure, who is not giving to too many words. Yet that calmness
depleting that which the recently buried global brand name, Dr Nelson Mandela
is obvious, but does not mean weakness. He combines such calm state with the
charisma of J F Kennedy
For starters, our subject matter of
today, Adebisi Omoyeni is the man who
has spent the better part of his life in the banking hall and murky boardroom
horse-trading, where for nearly a decade he was the Executive Director and later Group Managing
Director, WEMA Bank. Not so long ago, he signified his ambition to play big
time politics by seeking to be voted in as not only the People’s Democratic
Party( PDP) Candidate, but also the man to beat in the July 2014 Ekiti
Governorship race
And Only last Sunday, one of CERUTTI MEDIA blog site, WORLD INDUSTRY
LEADERS, caught up with him when he came with his entourage as V.I.P guest
at the official opening on the eye-popping and imposing Home
inspiration flagship showroom opening in 15 Idowu Martins
Street, Victoria island, Lagos, we caught up with him few days after for an exclusive
chat on his mission in politics and what hope is there for his people. EXCERPT

ON
HIS PRIMARY MISSION IN POLITICS
‘’I by the
grace of God have achieved all I set out to achieve in life, but I realized of
late that I still have a burden eating deep in my heart, and that is to
better the plight of my people In Ekiti.
Here is a land and people blessed with abundant natural recourses but still
suffering in midst of plenty
‘’I know in
my heart that the average Ekiti person want s to live decently, comfortably,
and wants to enjoy all the socio economic generational rights by receiving all
adequate reward for their efforts, but what they have today is far from what
they want, my entering into the race is to build a bridge between our people
and their getting what is their birthright, that is what my manifesto stand for
and that is what the people will get’’
·
ON HIS LAMENTATION THAT THE AVERAGE EKITI MORTAL IS
SUFFERING IN MIDST OF PLENTY
‘’Yes I
stand by my word. The late MKO Abiola once said that poverty is worse than AIDS
and I agree with him. Now looking at our people, I have done my research and
have realized that our people are today suffering from what is worst as AIDS
and that is the fact that they are suffering acquired poverty disease. They are
suffering in silence; suffering deep in midst of plenty. This is most pathetic
and unacceptable because God has endowed us with a list of human and natural
resources which if harnessed can possibly provide us with the wherewithal to
get rid of poverty in our state. Infrastructure and basic amenities like pipe
bone water, good and basic roads network, electricity etc are sadly highly in
short supply

ANYWHERE YOU GO YOU TALK ON
YOUTHS, YOUTHS YOUTHS, WHY PASSION FOR YOUTH
‘’Youths are
the bedrock of the future; the country belongs to today’s youths. AND I SAY it
without fear or favor, any government that does not pay special attention to
and develop its youths is wasting its time and the precious time of government.
All right thinking person’s should be naturally touched by the level of high
rate of unemployment in Ekiti state of Nigeria…most pathetic to say the list,
it is part of my motivation to step forward politically and use my vast
experience in banking world to develop a programme of action that would create
job opportunities for all youths and unemployed graduates to have hope for
better life ahead, my agenda I can tell you will create 4,000 job opportunities
annually during my tenure

ON WHY HE FEELS HE IS PDP’S BEST BET FOR THE
TICKET
‘’To unseat
an incumbent governor all over the world is not easy, but yet very possible
with the birth of the one man-on e-vote. No one can stop the will of the
people, our people need change and the change must come now. There
is an old English saying by Josh Billings....’’ The wheel that squeaks the
loudest is the one that gets the grease’’
‘’ For our
great party to unseat the incumbent, we needs man with mass experience in boardroom
world, Ekiti needs a strong and respectable candidate who has accomplished all
he set to achieve in the corporate world, professionally and with wide private
sector experience, a candidate with hunger to deliver; a candidate willing to
bring Ekiti to world state with his vast global connection armed with rapid
socio-economic development in mind, all these are qualities written in gold in my résumé, we will only sail if we
choose the best man to slug it out with the incumbency, the man to deliver
Ekiti is here with you now’’
*No doubt it
is near seven months to the Ekiti Election, but the stage seems set for another
mother of all elections. Will PDP unseat the hurricane APC in Ekiti? Only time
will tell
