Nigeria's Flamingos will tonight, Saturday, November 7, 2026, by 7:30pm Nigerian time, face Japan in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Rabat, Morocco.

It is a historic night — the first time any African team has ever reached the final of the tournament.

Ahead of the game, Cerutti Media spoke to businessman, politician and sports lover, Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko, founder and owner of Africa's first All Sports University, the Sports University of Nigeria.

Senator Nwoko said the Flamingos have already made Nigeria and the whole of Africa proud by reaching this final, after losing their opening game 2-1 to Poland and then winning five straight games, including a 3-1 win over defending champions North Korea and a 3-1 win over Brazil in the semi-final.

He described the girls as brave, talented and disciplined, and a true example of what Nigerian youths can achieve when given the right support and opportunity.

According to Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko, victory tonight will do more than win a trophy, it will boost Nigeria's global image, showcase the country's sporting talent to the world, and inspire millions of young girls to take sports and education seriously.

He said sports is a powerful tool for national unity, youth development and international respect, and that is why he invested in building Africa's first All Sports University — to give young Nigerian athletes the chance to combine education with world-class sports training.

Senator Nwoko wished Coach Akeem Busari and the entire team good luck, urging them to play with confidence, unity and belief.

He said: "I wish all the girls good luck. I can't wait to see them carry the cup. Go and make Nigeria proud. You have already written history by reaching the final, now go and finish it."

He added that the whole country is behind them, and that their victory will be celebrated by over 200 million Nigerians at home and abroad.
