The Significance Of Polaris Bank's Endless Support For Cancer Advocacy In Nigeria

In a country where cancer remains one of the most feared and financially devastating diseases, Polaris Bank Limited has distinguished itself as a corporate institution whose compassion goes far beyond banking. The Bank has reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to cancer awareness, early detection and patient care, proving that true corporate citizenship is measured not only by profit, but by lives touched.

The significance of this commitment is most evident in its legacy partnership with the Care Organisation Public Enlightenment (C.O.P.E). Through this enduring collaboration, Polaris Bank has supported breast cancer screening for over 22,000 women across Nigeria, donated three breast cancer screening machines including a mobile screening unit to reach rural communities, sponsored full treatment for over 30 indigent cancer patients, and provided ongoing support for survivors to reintegrate with dignity.

In October 2026, the Bank took this advocacy a step further by partnering with the WinCancer Foundation, founded by two-time breast cancer survivor Olabisi Oladiran, to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the inaugural WinCancer Games held at Whitesands School playground, Lekki, Lagos. Themed "Awareness to Action," the Games moved advocacy from talk to practical steps — encouraging early medical attention, screening and fundraising for patients battling not just breast cancer, but ovarian, colon, blood and childhood cancers.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Brand Management and Corporate Communications at Polaris Bank, Rasheed Bolarinwa, captured the Bank's philosophy: "At Polaris Bank, we believe that the true measure of an institution goes beyond financial performance. It is also reflected in the lives we touch, the communities we support and the positive impact we create in society". This ethos, he noted, spans the Bank's legacy institutions and remains a core pillar of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

What makes Polaris Bank's intervention truly significant is its shift from awareness to action. In 2026 alone, the Bank is targeting free breast cancer screening for 100 women and free prostate cancer screening for 250 men aged 40 and above, acknowledging that men are also vulnerable. The Bank has also recognized that cancer patients need more than medical care — they need food assistance, care packages, psychological support and referrals, which WinCancer Foundation provides.

For thousands of Nigerian families who cannot afford the N40 million cost of cancer treatment, Polaris Bank's model of sustained, practical support offers hope and a blueprint for other corporates. By working with healthcare professionals, NGOs, government and communities, the Bank shows that the fight against cancer requires collective responsibility, not just hospital visits.

Ultimately, Polaris Bank has turned banking into a humanitarian platform. In a nation where late detection kills many, its over two-decade commitment to screening, equipment donation, patient sponsorship and community education has saved lives, restored hope and proven that corporate support can indeed be endless when driven by compassion.
