It was a sign of relief and happiness for about 105 Nigerians who returned home from South Africa last night after months of fear and uncertainty.
The returnees were sponsored by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, in a humanitarian gesture that has continued to attract praise across the country. They landed safely in Nigeria to the joy of their families.
According to our findings, the Nigerians complained of xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Many of them said they lost their businesses, their means of livelihood and lived in constant fear for their lives before the intervention came.
For them, it was a second chance at life. On arrival, they gave God the glory for saving them and for using the Redeemed Christian Church of God to bring them back home alive. One of the returnees, Eze Pauline Ijoma, who spoke to us on WhatsApp chat, could not hide her joy. She thanked Pastor Adeboye and the Redeemed Christian Church of God for sponsoring their journey back home.
Eze Pauline said there is nothing like home. According to her, it is hell in South Africa for many Nigerians. She described the situation as unbearable and said many are still living in fear.
She appealed to the Nigerian government to do its best to bring more Nigerians back from South Africa, stressing that many of them are in hell and need urgent help to return home.
She also poured encomium on Pastor Adeboye and the Redeemed Christian Church of God for their humanitarian heart, saying the church has shown true love beyond the pulpit.
She prayed that God will give Pastor Adeboye long life to continue propagating the word of God and for his heart of humanity that has continued to touch lives.
The return of the 105 Nigerians has again shown that when the church and well meaning Nigerians intervene, hope can be restored to those who thought all hope was lost.
