GLOBAL ACCOLADES FOR EDO BILLIONAIRE PHILANTHROPIST CHIEF LEEMON IKPEA FOR DONATING 62-BED STATE-OF-THE-ART HOSPITAL TO COMMUNITY — SAYS TOUCHING LIVES IS HIS AMBITION

In a profound demonstration of philanthropy and deep love for humanity, Edo-born billionaire industrialist, Chief Dr. Leemon Agbonjagwe Ikpea, CON, recently completed and donated a fully equipped 62-bed ultra-modern hospital to his community in Ewatto, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, a gesture that has been described as historic and life-changing.

The state-of-the-art medical facility, built single-handedly by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lee Engineering Group, was officially commissioned by the Governor of Edo State, amidst pomp, praises and prayers from traditional rulers, community leaders, women, youths and beneficiaries who trooped out in their numbers to witness the landmark event.

Speaking during the commissioning, Chief Ikpea, who is also the Adolor of Ewatto and Odolagbon of Warri Kingdom, said the hospital project was borne out of his personal conviction that wealth is meaningless if it does not touch lives. According to him, “Touching lives is my ambition now,” noting that his greatest fulfillment at this stage of his life is to give back to the society that made him and to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged, especially in access to quality healthcare.
The 62-bed hospital is not a mere building, but a comprehensive healthcare institution fitted with modern diagnostic equipment, maternity wing, emergency unit, surgical theatre, laboratory, pharmacy, doctors and nurses quarters, and reliable power and water supply. Sources close to the project disclosed that Chief Ikpea ensured no cost was spared to meet international standards, so that rural dwellers can access the same quality of care available in urban centres.

Governor of Edo State, while commissioning the facility, commended Chief Ikpea for his rare generosity and for keying into the developmental aspirations of the state government. He described the billionaire as a true son of Edo who has consistently demonstrated that indigenous wealth must be used for indigenous development, noting that the hospital will drastically reduce maternal mortality, child mortality and medical tourism out of Ewatto and neighbouring communities.

Community leaders and traditional institutions in Esanland also poured encomiums on Chief Ikpea, recalling how he rose from humble beginnings — once trekking shoeless from Orerokpe to Warri because he could not afford school fees — to become a global player in the oil and gas industry through Lee Engineering and Construction Company Limited. Today, with operations in Nigeria, United Kingdom, Italy and the United States, he has chosen to bring development home.

The donation is coming under the umbrella of the Agbonjagwe Leemon Ikpea Foundation (ALIF), the humanitarian arm of the Lee Engineering Group, which over the years has awarded scholarships, empowered widows, built schools and supported healthcare initiatives across Edo, Delta and beyond. Stakeholders say this 62-bed hospital is the Foundation’s biggest health intervention till date and will serve over 50,000 residents across Esan South East and adjoining local government areas.

Health experts who inspected the facility have lauded its strategic location and design, stressing that access to primary and secondary healthcare in rural Edo has been a major challenge. With this intervention, emergency cases, childbirth complications and routine medical care that previously required long distance travel to Irrua, Uromi or Benin City can now be handled promptly within the community, thereby saving countless lives.

For Chief Leemon Ikpea, who holds national honours of OON and CON and who was recently celebrated for his contributions to Nigeria’s local content policy in the oil and gas sector, the message is clear: business success must translate to community impact. From a makeshift office in Warri over three decades ago to building a multi-billion naira conglomerate with a $100 million fabrication yard, his story remains an inspiration to young Nigerian entrepreneurs.

We at Richlist International Magazine and World Industry Leaders join millions of Nigerians to celebrate and commend Chief Dr. Leemon Ikpea for this noble act. At a time when many look outward, he has looked inward. This 62-bed hospital is more than concrete and equipment; it is hope, it is life, it is a legacy. Edo State is proud of you, Nigeria celebrates you.
