That immortal quote by Mother Teresa perfectly captures the life and legacy of High Chief Dr. Seinye O.B. Lulu-Briggs. As the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation marks 25 years of unwavering service to humanity, Nigeria also celebrates another milestone - the birthday of its visionary Chairman. It is indeed a double celebration of compassion, leadership and impact.

For 25 years, her compassion, leadership and commitment to humanity have helped sustain the Foundation's mission and extend its impact to millions of people across Nigeria. What started in 2001 as a structure to institutionalize the charitable giving of her late husband, High Chief Dr. O.B. Lulu-Briggs, has under her stewardship become one of Nigeria's most impactful NGOs, touching over 1.5 million lives.

Her journey is one of brilliance, resilience and service. Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs started her career in 1981 as a pioneer staff of the Computer Services Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria, rising to become Head of Computer Operations. She later made her mark in commercial banking, playing a significant role in establishing Oceanic Bank Plc as a household name in the Niger Delta and founding the Port Harcourt Township Bank in 1993 to drive community development.

An astute business mogul, she is the founder of the La Sien Group, with thriving investments in hospitality, real estate, beverage, agriculture and leasing. Her portfolio includes La Sien Bottling Company, Soliyama Leasing Company, Mamina Autoshop and Pathway Universal Investments. Today, as Chairman and CEO of Moni Pulo Limited, a pioneering indigenous oil and gas exploration company, she is leading its gas commercialization project to bring over 1 TCF of proven gas reserves to market.

Under her leadership, Moni Pulo has achieved a world-class safety record of over 5 million man-hours without lost-time injury at the OML 114 Agbani Field and became the first operator in Akwa Ibom to establish and fund a Host Community Development Trust, a model that influenced the Petroleum Industry Act 2021.

Her true crown, however, remains philanthropy. Through the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation, she has redefined humanitarian service. Since 2005, the Foundation's Free Medical Missions have treated over 152,055 men, women and children across Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States. She has provided free uterine fibroid surgeries for 100 indigent women, built boreholes for clean water in rural communities and prisons, and championed the Care for Life Programme for the elderly.

In education, her impact is massive. The Foundation awards countless scholarships at primary, secondary and tertiary levels including overseas post-graduate scholarships, provides annual grants and laptops to Rivers State indigenes in the Nigerian Law School, built and equipped science laboratories, endowed a Chair in Petroleum Geosciences at the University of Port Harcourt and at the University of Texas, Austin, and donated N150 million for student hostels at Niger Delta University.

Through its Microfinance and Economic Empowerment Programme, the Foundation has empowered over a thousand women and youths with SMEs, interest-free revolving loans, skills training and business support. She is a strong advocate for widows, collaborating with FIDA and the African Women Lawyers Association to provide legal and humanitarian support for women facing gender-based violence.

Her service has earned her global recognition. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors Nigeria, holds an honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Port Harcourt (2015), was honoured as BusinessDay Woman of the Year 2021, received the 2024 Special African Business Leadership Commendation Award at the House of Lords, London, was named African Philanthropist of the Year and received an official Resolution from the South Carolina House of Representatives, USA. In May 2024, she was installed as Ununwe Gwoduma Emene Ekpeye 1 - The Woman That Heals Ekpeye People.

Today, we celebrate the woman and the remarkable legacy of service she continues to advance. An ordained minister who leads worship at the Chapel of God International Worship Centre, Port Harcourt, Dr. Seinye O.B. Lulu-Briggs has shown that true greatness lies in lifting others.
