SPECIAL REPORT......LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OF GRANTING OPERATING LICENCE: BINANI AIR IMPRESSING CUSTOMERS WITH EXCELLENCE, GOOD TIMING AND DECENT CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP

•By Mike Cerutti & Aminu Tafawa Balewa, Lagos/ Abuja

We pledge to give only excellence — in service, in safety, and in the way we treat every passenger.”

That was Sen. Aishatu Dahiru Binani’s vow on March 17 - 18, 2026, when the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority presented Binani Air Global Services with its Air Operator Certificate in Abuja. Less than six months later, that statement is no longer just a quote. It is the operating manual for the airline.

The NCAA granted Binani Air its AOC for scheduled operations in March 2026, after years of non-scheduled and charter services dating back to July 2024. The moment was described by NCAA DG Capt. Chris Najomo as a historic milestone — the birth of Nigeria’s first fully female-led airline. But for the CEO, the licence was not the finish line. It was the starting point for a bigger vision.

Sen. Binani’s vision is simple and deliberate: build an airline Nigerians can trust first, then scale. In meetings with staff and in her public remarks, she has consistently pushed three pillars — excellence in service delivery, respect for the customer’s time, and dignity in every interaction. She believes aviation should not be about struggling through airports, but about restoring confidence in Nigerian carriers.

That vision is why Binani Air is obsessive about timing. The CEO told management from day one that “a delayed flight is a broken promise.” Less than six months in, passengers at MM2 are already speaking about on-time departures and clear communication. For a new airline in Nigeria’s tough operating environment, that discipline stands out.

Her vision also puts people at the center. At the MM2 office visited by Cerutti Media, staff spoke about training, empowerment, and a culture of “the passenger is our boss.” The CEO’s directive was clear: hire for attitude, train for skill, and lead with empathy. The result is a team that greets travelers by name, explains options patiently, and follows up until issues are resolved.

Beyond customer service, Sen. Binani sees Binani Air as a statement. As a former senator and business leader, she wanted to prove that a woman-led airline can compete on standards, not sentiment. Her goal is to create jobs, mentor young women in aviation, and show that leadership in a male-dominated sector can be measured by performance. The NCAA called it a breakthrough. The CEO calls it responsibility.

Safety is non-negotiable in her playbook. The pledge to “give only excellence” includes strict adherence to NCAA regulations, investment in crew training, and zero tolerance for shortcuts. She has told the technical team that reputation will be built one safe flight at a time, and that patience in growth is better than haste that compromises standards.

Financially, her vision is measured. Instead of chasing rapid route expansion, Binani Air is consolidating — perfecting schedules, improving turnaround, and listening to feedback. The idea is to earn loyalty first. Passengers we spoke to cited clean cabins, courteous crew, and respectful handling as reasons they are returning. That is the CEO’s strategy working in real time.

The broader impact is already visible. Young women now see aviation leadership as possible. Partners and regulators see a carrier that asks the right questions. And customers see an airline trying to keep a promise made on the day the AOC was9 handed over.

With less than six months of scheduled operations, Binani Air is proving that vision matters. Sen. Aishatu Dahiru Binani set out to build more than an airline. She set out to build trust. From the MM2 counters to the tarmac, that vision is showing up as excellence, good timing, and decent customer relationship — and it is winning customers, one flight at a time.
