SPECIAL REPORT....HEIGHT OF PHILANTHROPIC GESTURE :Enter The Significance of Agbu Kefas-led Taraba Govt Donation of ₦500,000 Each to 200 Youths Through Kefas Youth Enterprise Fund

                 By Mike Cerutti O.

True leadership is not about how much you keep, but about how much you give to lift others.”

With that conviction, the Agbu Kefas administration has again set a new standard for people-centered governance in Taraba State.

Today, the government officially flagged off the Kefas Youth Enterprise Fund through the Taraba State Youth Development Agency. The launch marks a bold step toward tackling unemployment and building a new generation of business owners across the 16 Local Government Areas.

In Phase 1 of the program, over 200 beneficiaries received ₦500,000 each to grow and sustain their businesses. The beneficiaries cut across agriculture, fashion, ICT, food processing, and small-scale manufacturing. For many, it was the first time they were receiving direct government support without bureaucracy or political conditions.

Governor Agbu Kefas, while addressing the excited crowd in Jalingo, described the moment as historic. He said the grant was not charity but a deliberate investment in human capital. According to him, Taraba’s greatest asset is its young people, and empowering them is the surest way to guarantee peace and prosperity.

The Governor also used the occasion to debunk the stereotype that Nigerian youths are lazy. “The average Nigerian youth is not lazy,” he stated firmly. “They have business ideas. They have the energy and creativity. What they lack is support. Once you give them that support, they will exceed every expectation.” His words drew loud applause and have since sparked conversations across the state.

Reacting to the donation, Governor Kefas said he was proud to see young people receive the capital they had long prayed for. He noted that many of them had viable ideas but were blocked by lack of access to finance. “Today we are removing that barrier,” he said. “We believe in you. Go and build businesses that will employ others.”

To show that this is only the beginning, the Governor announced that an additional ₦1 billion has been injected into the Enterprise Fund to accommodate more young people in the next batch. He said the expansion will be done in phases, with proper monitoring to ensure transparency and impact.

“I reiterated that our administration’s commitment to youth development remains unwavering,” the Governor said. “We will continue to engage young people meaningfully and create opportunities for them and for society at large.” The statement reinforced the administration’s position that youth empowerment is not a side project but a central pillar of governance.

Beyond the cash grants, the ceremony featured two major unveilings. The first was the Taraba State Youth Development Roadmap

— a strategic framework designed to guide and drive youth development initiatives across the state. The roadmap outlines skills training, mentorship, access to markets, and funding pathways for young entrepreneurs.

The second was ‘Future Ready’— a practical guidebook on skills and global competitiveness for young people. The guidebook is expected to equip beneficiaries with knowledge on branding, digital skills, financial management, and how to scale businesses beyond Taraba.

The event also had national recognition as the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, *Ayodele Olawande, graced the occasion. His presence signaled federal support for the state’s model and highlighted Taraba as a pacesetter in youth empowerment.

Beneficiaries spoke with emotion. Many said they had been saving for years but inflation kept pushing their goals away. Others said banks demanded collateral they did not have. Now, with ₦500,000 in hand, they feel a renewed sense of dignity and responsibility to succeed.

Policy analysts described the intervention as one of the most direct and impactful youth programs in the state’s recent history. They noted that by putting money directly into the hands of verified entrepreneurs, the government is creating jobs at the grassroots and reducing the risk of restiveness.

“We are serious about our young people and the next generation of Tarabans,” Governor Kefas said. “That is why their welfare remains top of our priorities.” He promised that the Enterprise Fund will be sustained, expanded, and linked to mentorship so that beneficiaries do not just start businesses but grow them.

In the end, the Kefas Youth Enterprise Fund stands as a height of philanthropic gesture. By combining cash support, policy frameworks, and practical tools, the Agbu Kefas-led government has shown that when government truly supports its youths, they will rise, build, and transform communities. This is governance that invests in people, and the results will be seen for years to come.
