In an emotional Instagram video, she said she had been hospitalized for three weeks and needed about ₦30 million for three life-saving surgeries. “My people, my fans and my family… the thing has gone beyond my control. Please, I need your help. Don’t let me die,” she pleaded.

For many public figures, such appeals disappear into the noise of social media. For Abia, it did not. Governor Alex Otti moved swiftly. He approved the first phase payment of the actress’s medical bills. Reports put the intervention at N25 million paid directly to the hospital to begin treatment.

This is where leadership shows. While some states debate, delay, or ignore, Abia acted. Otti’s intervention meant a woman who has given decades to Nigerian film and television would not be left to face surgery and pain alone. It meant dignity in a moment of vulnerability.

The government stated that the support covered only part of the required expenses. Officials also appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to continue supporting Ngozi Nwosu as she undergoes treatment. That honesty matters. It shows the intervention was not for optics, but as a bridge to keep her alive while others join in.

Ngozi Nwosu is more than a name on a movie poster. She is a cultural asset from Abia, a woman whose work shaped television and film for generations. To let her suffer in silence would have been to dishonor that legacy. Governor Otti chose the other path.

Beyond politics, this action speaks to values. It tells every Abia son and daughter at home and abroad that their state sees them. That talent, service, and age will not be forgotten when health fails.
