Lagos, Nigeria — "When you train people well, you are not just hiring staff, you are building the future of the organization." This was the central message at the UBA Academy graduation ceremony held in Lagos, where history was made as over 374 trainees completed the Graduate Management Accelerated Programme.

The ceremony was attended by UBA’s top leadership including Group Chairman Tony Elumelu, Group Managing Director Oliver Alawuba, Group Head HR Modupe Akindele, and Executive Director Finance Ugo Nwaghodoh. They joined the best graduands of the 2026 GMAP class for the commemorative session.

Established to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, the UBA Academy is designed to ensure that every new hire enters the bank equipped, confident, and ready to serve customers across Africa.

The 374 trainees from across the continent underwent months of intensive training covering banking operations, digital solutions, risk management, compliance, and customer experience. The curriculum was structured to be practical and aligned with the realities of modern banking.

Speaking on the importance of proper training, UBA emphasized that well-trained staff deliver better service, make fewer errors, understand regulatory requirements, and represent the brand with professionalism. Training builds competence, and competence builds trust with customers.

UBA noted that without proper training, organizations risk poor service delivery and weak performance. With it, they gain a disciplined, skilled workforce aligned with company values. This is why the bank continues to invest significantly in human capital development.

Leadership at the event charged the graduands to serve as ambassadors of excellence. They were reminded that their conduct, service delivery, and commitment to integrity will shape UBA’s reputation in the years ahead.

The graduation also reinforces a strong message to Nigerian youth that opportunities exist for those willing to learn, grow, and stay disciplined. UBA is demonstrating that financial institutions can also serve as schools of leadership and character.

With 374 new professionals joining the workforce, UBA strengthens its capacity to innovate and serve millions of customers. The impact of this training will be felt across branches, digital channels, and business units throughout the group.

As the academy closes this chapter, it opens another. These graduates now carry the responsibility to lead, serve, and grow with UBA. Proper training has prepared them. Now, it is time for them to prove it.
