He woke up today and first thing he did was say Thank You God. That is the daily habit of Prince Abayomi Alao, the Jos-born business magnate and Chairman of Maria Hotel and Maria’s Suites. Despite his status in Nigeria’s hospitality sector, the respected hotelier says gratitude remains his first assignment every morning before business, calls, or meetings begin.

Prince Abayomi in an exclusive interview with Richlist International magazine recalls that he was born with no silver spoon but he had a dream of opening a hotel in Jos. After his secondary school at Gyel Commercial College in Bukuru, he travelled to London. Yet, unlike many of his peers, he never wanted to live there permanently. The pull of home and the vision to build something in his city kept driving him back to Nigeria.

Today, that dream is a living testimony. Prince Abayomi is happy how God blessed him with two big hotels in Jos and Abuja, turning his childhood vision into thriving businesses that create jobs and redefine hospitality standards. From a young boy in Bukuru with ambition but no capital, he now sits as chairman of establishments that host dignitaries, tourists, and corporate clients across the country.




Speaking on his journey, Abayomi called on all to learn to always thank God than lament. He urges young Nigerians to keep dreaming, don’t quit, and don’t surround yourself with low negative minded people because they will kill your dream. For him, faith, focus, and association are the three pillars that separate wishful thinkers from actual achievers.



From Gyel Commercial College to London and back to build Maria Hotel and Maria’s Suites, Prince Abayomi Alao’s story proves that gratitude and grit can rewrite any background. His first words each morning remain unchanged: Thank You God.
