Chief Udoh’s lifelong dedication to the people of Nung Obong and beyond has left an indelible mark on Akwa Ibom State, prompting tributes from leaders, partners, and citizens alike.
In a heartfelt statement, his beloved daughter, Princess Amb Enoh Udoh—an accomplished entrepreneur, Nollywood producer, restaurateur, and organiser of the National Integrity Award—said, “I am nothing without my father. His burial shall be fit for a king, for he lived like one.” She added that the family is committed to honoring his memory with a ceremony befitting his royal stature.
• Brief Biography of the Late HRM. Deac. Obong Ime Tom Udoh
– Born in 1942 into a modest family of Elder Tom Udonsek, a devout member of the Qua Iboe Church, the late chief grew up with deep-rooted values of humility and service. His early years were shaped by the Nigerian Civil War, which led him to join the Central Bank of Nigeria, where he served with distinction until 1977.
During his tenure at the Central Bank, Chief Udoh pursued academic excellence, obtaining GCE Advanced Level qualifications in two subjects, completing the GCCEO Level 5 program, and earning a Diploma in Law from the London Institute of Bankers. He also mastered shorthand at 100‑120 words per minute. In 1977, he withdrew from the bank to serve as Personal Assistant to the President of the Commonwealth Association, a role he held until his retirement in 2004.
Upon returning to his homeland, he was appointed Village Head of Nung Obong and later elevated to Traditional Ruler of Akwa Ibom State. In these capacities, he spearheaded an ambitious development agenda that transformed the socioeconomic landscape of his community.
Under his leadership, Nung Obong witnessed a series of landmark projects that improved infrastructure, education, health, and overall quality of life. The initiatives underscored his belief that sustainable development stems from meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment.
Key developments during his tenure include: securing a 500 KVA transformer from Mobil Producing Nigeria; renovating three primary‑school classroom blocks and constructing a new one; installing water systems, toilets, and a borehole at the secondary school; renovating and building two additional secondary‑school classroom blocks; erecting a material house for COVID‑19 response; constructing the Ikot Eyo‑Ikot Ntung road; building an ultra‑modern market; providing a village generator set; acquiring land parcels for community use; renovating the town hall and civic centre; commissioning boreholes at Atan and the town hall; and constructing the Millennium Medical Centre in Nung Obong.
Princess Amb Enoh Udoh reaffirmed the family’s dedication to fulfilling her father’s vision, announcing that the burial ceremony will be conducted with full royal honors, reflecting the king‑like legacy he leaves behind. The family invites friends, partners, and well‑wishers to join in celebrating a life devoted to the upliftment of his people.
