Human Capital Development.....Live From Cameroon:Tony Elumelu Advocates Strategic Collective Partnership to Boost African Economy


Yaoundé, Cameroon - At the inaugural edition of the Cameroon Economic Meeting, Tony Elumelu, Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc and Heirs Holdings Group, emphasized the need for a strategic and collaborative approach to drive sustainable economic growth across Africa. Elumelu, who presented the keynote remarks, highlighted the critical role of entrepreneurship, infrastructure development, and financial inclusion in fostering economic transformation.

Elumelu stressed that governments, private sector leaders, and development partners must unite to unlock Africa's vast economic potential. He emphasized the importance of intra-African trade and investment, urging stakeholders to adopt policies that create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. "For Africa to succeed, for Cameroon to succeed, government and businesses need to unite, to invest for the long term, not just the short term," Elumelu said.



Using the case study of Heirs Energies, Elumelu demonstrated how fostering collaboration between government and private sector players can unlock greater economic opportunities. He identified key priority areas for governments to focus on, including security and Rule of Law,Infrastructure Development, Youth Empowerment .Attracting Global Investment, and Public-Private Partnerships,

Elumelu also reiterated the importance of execution, enterprise, and excellence in achieving sustainable economic transformation. He emphasized that Africa's economic revival requires a collective commitment from governments, private sectors, investors, and the African people. "My life story shows what can be achieved, in Africa, by Africans, for Africans," Elumelu added.


As Africa's Global Bank, UBA has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to Cameroon, where it has been operating since 2008. The bank has employed over 1,000 locals and supported major economic projects, including the financing of the country's landmark Olembe Stadium.
