The World Remembers Herbert Wigwe in Bright Lights

 Herbert Wigwe's one-year remembrance event was held in Lagos, and it was a solemn yet celebratory occasion. The event, which took place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, brought together dignitaries, friends, and family to honor the memory of the late Access Bank boss 

President Bola Tinubu led the tributes, describing Herbert Wigwe as "a shining star" whose legacy continues to inspire . The President's representative, Minister of Finance Wale Edun, spoke about Wigwe's impact on the banking sector and his commitment to youth empowerment, education, and healthcare.





Other notable attendees included former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who sent a tribute, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, who remembered Wigwe as "larger than life" ¹. The governor also acknowledged Wigwe's contributions to the development of Lagos State.

The event featured a heartfelt performance by Dare Art Alade, who sang a rendition of John Elton's "Candle in the Wind" in honor of Herbert Wigwe 

Access Bank also shared clips from the event on their social media platforms, showcasing the impact of Wigwe's legacy on the bank and its stakeholders.




Wigwe University, which was founded by Herbert Wigwe, also held a memorial service to honor his memory. The university's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Marwan Al-Akaidi, spoke about Wigwe's visionary leadership and commitment to Africa's development ³.

Overall, the one-year remembrance event for Herbert Wigwe was a fitting tribute to his life and legacy. It celebrated his achievements, honored his memory, and reaffirmed his impact on the banking sector, education, and healthcare.
