WORLD WATER DAY : Federal ministry Of agriculture, Rural Development Unit Plans Huge Celebration In Nigeria

As the countdown to the 2019 World Water DAY gets nearer, plans are being put in place globally to celebrate this historic day

In Nigeria, the day is expected to be celebrated in a grand way by the Federal ministry of agriculture, rural development in her determined drive to live up to the UN Sustainable Development Goal OF water for all by 2030. By definition, this means leaving no one behind. But today, billions of people are still living without safe water – their households, schools, workplaces, farms and factories struggling to survive and thrive.
Marginalized groups – women, children, refugees, indigenous peoples, disabled people and many others – are often overlooked, and sometimes face discrimination, as they try to access and manage the safe water they need.

This World Water Day, 22nd March, is about tackling the water crisis by addressing the reasons why so many people are being left behind. But why so much hype and celebration in Nigeria? A top official of the Federal ministry of agriculture, rural development unit told gave us few insight
"Water is important for a healthy body. We all know that. This is why the United Nations General Assembly designated this day in 1993, 26 years ago, to call attention towards the water-related challenges we face. The main symbol for the day is the shape of a blue drop of water. The quantity and quality of water that is available for human consumption today has been affected by damaged ecosystems. Now, 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home; it affects their health, education and general livelihood.

"Due to this knowledge, the UN member states and agencies and various other NGOs have become involved in the promotion of clean water conservation and has helped focus the attention of people on all the critical issues of water. They also promote the supply of clean and purified water.
"As we mark this very important day, we want Nigerians to recognize the vital role water has in our lives and reflect on how important it is that we continue to work to ensure that someday everyone is able to take advantage of this important resource in the same ways we enjoy today, we at the Rural development unit of ministry OF agriculture will not leave any stone upturned in a bid to make the day a success story" the top official hinted WORLD LEADERS ONLINE MAGAZINE in Abuja last week
