  A remarkable history was made recently when the renowned  Constitutional Lawyer and leading Human Rights Activist and Scholar, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, CON, OFR, Ph.D, successfullly deliver the 29th Convocation Lecture of the Abia State University, Uturu, Abia  State, on 26th January, 2023,at the University grounds.  The Visiting Professor of Law spoke on a topical matter, “PRIVATE V PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES: THE POLITICS, CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS”.  Ozekhome, was  on the following day, 27th January, 2023,  conferred with the LL.D doctorate Degree (Honoris  Causa) by the same University ( his 13th doctorate degree; one by academic thesis).  The conferment was  done alongside other distinguished Nigerians who have made their mark in different spheres of human endeavor.  Emirates is ramping up its operations in China ahead of the new lunar year and in response to strong travel demand, thereby boosting connectivity to its gateways; Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing. The development followed the country’s reopening of its borders and the easing of its COVID-19-related entry restrictions. The airline has equally announced plans to as from February 1st, 2023 increase services between Dubai and Guangzhou with EK362/EK363 operating as daily non-stop flights with the flagship Emirates A380 and further boost its Dubai-Shanghai route from 1 March 2023 with a daily non-stop service. Following this new development, the resumption of passenger services to Shanghai since January 20th with two weekly flights will be operated by an Airbus A380 aircraft with EK302 departing from Dubai to Shanghai non-stop and EK303, making a short stop in Bangkok before returning to Dubai. Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade,on Thursday, January 12, 2023, scored yet another victory in another suit instituted against him by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Senator Jarigbe A. Jarigbe, challenging his candidature to contest election   into the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent Cross River North Senatorial District in the 2023 General elections. The Hon. Justice A.R Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja, delivered judgment in favour of Governor Ayade (3rd Defendant in the suit) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) (2nd Defendant in the suit), in dismissing the Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1248/2022, instituted by the PDP and Senator Jarigbe, who had claimed that the APC made Governor Ayade the Senatorial Candidate through an illegal election.
